Mileage Tracker Privacy Policy
Summary
- You don't need an account. Your trips, vehicles and settings are stored only on your phone.
- The app uses your location only when you tap Detect start location or End trip, never in the background.
- To turn a location into an address, or an address into a location, the app may use your phone's built-in geocoder or OpenStreetMap Nominatim.
- The app has no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We don't sell your data, and we (the developer) don't receive any of it.
What stays on your phone
Everything you enter: trips (date, purpose, category, start and end address, distance, odometer readings, notes, claimed status), vehicles (label, plate number, odometer, reimbursement rate), your driver name, and app settings such as view mode and column choices. It is kept in the app's private storage and is not sent to us or anyone else.
GPS coordinates are used to work out an address and a distance, then discarded. Only the resulting address text and distance are saved with the trip.
If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include this app's data in your device backup, which Google stores under your control. You can turn backup off in your phone's settings.
Location
The app asks for location permission the first time you use Auto (GPS). It reads your position once when you tap Detect start location and once when you tap End trip. It does not track your route, and it does not use location while the app is closed. You can refuse or revoke the permission at any time; the other ways of adding trips keep working.
Address lookup
To show an address for a GPS position, or to find the position of an address or postal code you type in Point to Point, the app uses:
| Service | What is sent |
|---|---|
| Your phone's built-in geocoder (on most phones provided by Google) | The coordinates, or the address or postal code you typed |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim, only if the built-in geocoder gives no result | The same coordinates or search text |
No account, name, vehicle or trip history is included. Like any website, these services receive your IP address and basic request details. See Google's privacy policy and the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. Distances are then calculated on your phone.
Exports and backups
Excel/CSV reports and JSON backup files are written to the place you pick in Android's file picker, such as phone storage or Google Drive. Restoring reads the file you pick. The app does not upload these files itself; where they go and who can see them is up to you and the storage service you choose.
Deleting your data
Delete trips and vehicles inside the app, or uninstall the app to remove all of its data from your phone. Backup and export files you saved elsewhere are not removed; delete them where you stored them. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing to request from us.
Accuracy
Mileage Tracker is a record-keeping tool. GPS and route distances are estimates, and reimbursement amounts use the rate you set. Check them before submitting a claim.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Questions: [email protected].
